The Art of Japanese Parfait

Even though the parfait was invented in France, the Japanese have put their own creative and aesthetically pleasing twists on the sweet and popular dessert. Every month in Japan brings about new seasonal fruits that can be explored via parfait. Here’s the Japanese seasonal fruit breakdown:

Winter - Spring: Strawberries, Mikan (Japanese clementine), Apples, Golden Kiwi

Summer-Fall: Watermelon, Japanese Melon (similar to honeydew), Nashi (asian pear), Persimmon, Blueberries, Fig, Grapes

If you’re not huge into fruit, fret not. There are also many American-style parfaits in Japan that showcase chocolatey goodies like brownies and pocky.

A thick, sweet slice of Japanese melon sits on top of a thyme infused cookie with a dollop of cream and edible flowers. In the glass, awaits a scoop of vanilla-bean ice cream, melon balls, chocolate nibs, crumbled kinako biscuit, and more cream.
